I was elated with the news that at least some thing is happening.I had 45,000/- as cash in old denomination.Went to yes bank (as it i relatively new and has few customers).Changed 8000/- on day one (4k each for me and my wife).Next day did that same.Deposited remaining amount in the same queue.Thus no problems or long lines so far.The trick which I used was that most people will fear long lines in the beginning and will wait of next day.I was right.On day 2 line was longer even at yes bank.

Next challenge was cash withdrawal since 16k was not enough.I found vijaya bank ATM mostly closed.I guessed that they might open it at odd hours.I was correct. InIn The morning they opened it primarily of their customers.I got 10k from there from five debit cards.

Still more cash was required of emmergency purposes. I got 10k from an Axis bank ATM in a remote location in Airoli only.For more cash I with drew 24k from yes bank via check.

My observations

  1. Process was smooth in the beginning.As panic rushed and more people with black money got recruited agents (300/- per day),line increased.
  2. ATM with drawl is most difficult and is not worth the effort.You cannot withdraw more than 4k as people behind you start to object as if I will take you total cash.Best withdrawal options are bank with drawl with check.Go to not so famous banks.
  3. Next problem was get change for 2k notes.I usually found eateries much more helpful.I told them in the beginning that I am with 2k note.This made transition easier.
  4. Since I am a totally online sloth,I don’t need much cash.Only my wife needs it and I am there at her service for that.
  5. Tip : If you want cash now then go after 10th when all the salary rush will get over.We suffer from recency bias.Many people may not need that much cash but are hoarding it, in case they need it.Situation will ease up in 10–12 days.
  6. ATMs are following rotation method. Do not go the same ATM twice.Choose a remote ATM.Avoid week ends for ATM withdrawal.Try ATM at railway local station usually at night since they fill it in night due to rush.
